What is DEUMM Online?

DEUMM Online digitizes, enhances, and extends the Dizionario enciclopedico universale della musica e dei musicisti (DEUMM), the most extensive modern music dictionary in the Italian language. DEUMM was first issued in print between 1983 and 2005 by the renowned Italian publisher of reference works, UTET Grandi Opere, under the editorship of Alberto Basso. Comprising three thematic sections (Le biografie; Il lessico; and I titoli e i personaggi), DEUMM Online will be available on RILM’s Egret platform, gaining advanced and intuitive search and translation functionalities. With old entries continuously being revised and new entries continuously added, DEUMM Online will be linked with other RILM resources like MGG Online and RILM Abstracts of Music Literature, as well as external databases like the Virtual International Authority File (VIAF). This invaluable music research source is thus one indispensable node in a comprehensive, international, networked research experience that only RILM can provide.

Topics

DEUMM Online will be supplemented continuously with new entries reflecting the current directions of music scholarship, expanding particularly in the areas of popular music, film music, jazz, traditional music, world music, and music in antiquity. At the same time, given the significance of Italian music over the centuries, DEUMM Online will remain the ultimate resource for the study of all aspects of Italian musical culture.

The Team

The core editorial team consists of Prof. Dr. Antonio Baldassarre of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts and Prof. Dr. Daniela Castaldo of the Università del Salento, who serve as General Editors; Bianca De Mario who is the Managing Editor; and Dr. Zdravko Blažeković, who is directing the project on RILM’s side. They are advised by a team of by Subject Editors with an expertise in a variety of music-related topics.
