RILM will participate at this year’s meeting of the International Association of Music Libraries, Archives, and Documentation Centres (IAML) in Prague, 24–29 July 2022.

On Thursday, 28 July, at 2:00pm/8:00am EDT, Barbara Dobbs Mackenzie, RILM’s Executive Director and past President of IAML (among many other IAML duties), will chair the RILM general session titled Bibliography as a Tool of Cultural Preservation, which will include three presentations: Barbara Dobbs Mackenzie and Jadranka Važanová (RILM’s Senior Editor and RAFT Product Development Coordinator) will give an update on the latest development across all of RILM’s resources. Zdravko Blažeković (RILM’s Executive Editor and Product Development Coordinator), together with Antonio Baldassarre (Hochschule Luzern – Musik) and Daniela Castaldo (Università del Salento), will introduce the new DEUMM ONLINE. Stephanie Bonjack (University of Colorado Boulder) will present the paper “Highlighting performing arts and cultural heritage in Ukraine”.

On Wednesday, 27 July, at 11:00am/5:00am EDT, Jadranka Važanová will chair the RILM Business Meeting for National Committees.

RILM will participate in the 46th World Conference of the International Council for Traditional Music (ICTM), which will take place in Lisbon, Portugal, 21–27 July 2022.

On Saturday, 23 July, at 9:00am/4:00am EDT, Associate Editor Gene Lai will present his paper “Reducing the stigma by embracing the ‘salad’: The invention of damaru Indian drumming ensemble in multicultural Singapore”. Shortly thereafter, at 11:30am/6:30am EDT, RILM Editor Mu Qian and Executive Editor Zdravko Blažeković will present their paper “Jean Theodore Royer and his collection of Han Chinese instruments” during the panel Han Chinese and Tibetan Instrument Collections of the Past and Present, organized and chaired by Mu Qian. Blažeković will also chair the panel Non-Sounding Musical Sources on 25 July, at 5:00pm/12:00pm EDT and can be seen, along with RILM’s commission mixte member Gisa Jähnichen, in Fernando Palacio’s film What moves us?–to be presented as a fixed installation at the conference and discussed in a panel meeting on 26 July at 10:00am/5:00am EDT.

In January 2023, RILM Music Encyclopedias will welcome two new titles into its continuously expanding collection of historical and current reference volumes:

The 2023 additions to RILM Music Encyclopedias enrich the content of the collection with two complementary titles that document the music history and musical life of Southeastern Europe. Both reference works were edited by the distinguished Croatian music historian Krešimir Kovačević (1913–92), who was active as a music writer, critic, teacher, conductor, and editor-in-chief of the Croatian music periodical Arti musices (1973–79). Both works were published by the Jugoslavenski Leksikografski Zavod in Zagreb and represent a collaboration of the best scholars from all six Yugoslav states.

The addition of these titles, which augment the coverage and depth of RILM Music Encyclopedias, emphasizes RILM’s mission to include the music scholarship of all countries and in all languages.
